Bathroom Strike Part 1

Posted on March 30, 2019November 12, 2019 by Annie

Over Spring Break, I took the kids and my parents on a road trip up the Oregon Coast. Robbie had class in Portland that week, so we just planned on meeting him there on our way home. The first night at that hotel, I knew the sleeping arrangement was not going to work out for me. We were staying at the Embassy Suites, which I love because of the separate bedroom space. There is a nice pull out bed, a chair, and two beds in the back bedroom.

I was laying awake most of the night, my hips in pain (probably because of the hell fire legs I had leftover from climbing a bajillion stairs at the Astoria Column and also because I am practically falling off the tiny bed). I tell Robbie there is no way these are queen beds. He swears up and down they are. Keep in mind we have a cozy split king so I basically have a fat twin to myself at home. This bed that is a “queen” is no bigger than my side of my cozy bed. I feel like I’m trying to fit two people in a twin bed, not that I have ever tried that Lynn and Geri! Fast forward to later as I am looking at my handy dandy Hilton app and my current stay. The beds are in fact doubles. Bottom line : I am right, Robbie is wrong, and Tay is going to be relocated to the couch bed by Kaiden.

I was kind enough to give the girl a happy heads up that I will be claiming my own bed because I can. She will get to go sleep on the other bed…that is when it happened. A sort of stubbornness that only comes out once in awhile…lying dormant until all of the sudden it rears its ugly head. OH MY LANTA! The stand off begins as Tay runs into the bathroom, slams the door, and locks it. I gently try to coax her out. She refuses. I send her this kind message to let her know I love her, but I will still be taking the bed and ask her if we can be friends…this is what I get.

I am getting the feeling that this is going to last for awhile and it is definitely going to be a great FB story, so I started posting updates live. I was laughing so hard and my stubborn, competitive side came out in a big way. I WILL WIN THIS WAR!

She has met her match! She thinks we will die without one night of pills. What she doesn’t know is that I forget pills a lot. This won’t stop me a bit.

At this point, Gma and Gpa are feeling sorry for thier little sweetie pie. They had chosen to stay at a different hotel for the night. It actually works out in my favor as they probably would have come rushing to her rescue. That would not have been good for anyone. I refuse to show weakness!! I did, however, really need to pee. I knew that if she heard me leave, she would fly out of that bathroom and jump on the bed and it would be GAME OVER! So I did what any good parent would… I tip-toed out the door-Ninja Style. There is ALWAYS a bathroom by the lobby. Amateur!

Sneaking down to the lobby…taking my picture as proof of my departure so I can strategically send it to her upon my return. Meanwhile…she still thinks I am in our room.

At this point…my mom is practically begging for me to go buy her a twin air mattress. Her Tator Bug can’t sleep in the tub!! Good thing she was a mile away with no car.

She is about to break and I know it!

AND THE REAL REASON SHE BROKE… she was running out of juice.

And we have another argument won because I own the cell phone!
