I know I make fun of the crazy stuff my boy kid does. It’s hard because it seems to happen all the time. But today he did something that reminds me of how sweet and kind he really is. Who are we kidding, I’m his mom. I see his sweet and kind every day. But THIS is so great.
We have a giant picture window in our house. We also have really stupid birds that are constantly smacking themselves into the windows. Seriously, they aren’t even clean enough to reflect anything. But birds keep on flying into them like they aren’t even there. Sometimes the birds just knock themselves out and eventually come to, other times they get themselves dead.
Today a woodpecker ran into the window. Hard! Kaiden and Cassie saw it and immediately Kaiden has to save this bird. They called Wildlife Safari to find out what to do, because of course it was closing time over there. They told them it was okay to put it into a carrier, put it inside somewhere safe, and bring it to them in the morning.
With gloves, (I know some of you are freaking out a little bit here, calm down), he picked up the bird and tenderly put it in its safe place. He hasn’t tried to play with it, talk to it, or feed it. Any stress will kill it. He is making everyone be quiet. The bird is hanging out in his room, in the cage until Case can take it in tomorrow. He really loves animals of any kind (except frogs). He loves to take care of them and he takes great pride in helping them if he can. See, he isn’t all mischievous!
After a few days at Wildlife Images and some treatment for a dislocated eye…the woodpecker was released back into the wild…by our house somewhere. Hopefully it learned its lesson the first time and will steer clear of the windows.
